Between June and September, Durrës runs on weddings. Most of them are outdoors, most start in the late afternoon heat and finish long after midnight, and that combination is genuinely hard on hair and makeup.
Nothing here is complicated, but the details decide whether you still look like the photos from the first hour when the photographer comes back at eleven.
Book earlier than you think
Saturdays in July and August are the busiest slots of the year and go months in advance. If you are a guest at a wedding, book three to four weeks out. If you are the bride, book the moment you have a date.
Allow 45 minutes to an hour for makeup, and 45 minutes to 90 for hair depending on the style. An updo on long, thick hair takes longer than people expect. Add the two together, then add half an hour so you are not leaving in a rush.
The trial is for brides, and it is not optional
A trial run four to six weeks before the wedding is the only way to find out that the lipstick reads differently in photos, or that the updo you loved does not hold in your hair type.
Come to the trial with your hair in the condition it will be on the day — same colour, same last wash timing. Bring the veil or hairpiece if you have it. And take photos on your own phone in daylight, because that is closer to how you will look in wedding photography than salon lighting is.

Makeup that survives an Albanian August
Heat, humidity and a long night are the three enemies. The approach that works is thin layers, properly set, on prepared skin — not more product.
- Skin preparation matters more than foundation. Dehydrated skin makes base separate by evening.
- A grip primer, not a mattifying one on top of dry skin — the wrong primer causes patchiness.
- Cream products under powder, never the reverse.
- Waterproof mascara and a smudge-proof liner. You will cry at some point, or someone near you will.
- Lip liner over the whole lip, not just the outline, so colour survives eating and drinking.
- Setting spray at the end, and a second light pass after the base has settled.

Bring the lipstick with you at the end and we will hand it back so you can touch up. That is the only product you will realistically need to reapply.
Photography changes what looks right
Makeup that looks correct in a mirror can disappear under a flash. Cameras flatten features and wash out colour, so event makeup is deliberately built a little stronger than everyday makeup — more defined brows, more contour, more lip.
The one thing to avoid is a foundation or powder containing SPF or heavy light-reflecting particles. Under flash it produces a white cast across the face, and it is not fixable afterwards. Tell us if you use an SPF-heavy base at home.
“In the mirror it should look slightly more than you would normally wear. In the photographs it will look exactly right. Trust the process for one evening.”
Choosing a hairstyle that holds
Outdoor weddings mean wind off the sea and humidity. Loose waves look beautiful in the first hour and are usually gone by the second unless your hair naturally holds a curl.
- Updos and half-ups hold reliably all evening in any weather.
- Loose waves suit indoor venues and shorter events.
- If you want waves outdoors, ask for a soft half-up as a compromise.
- Fine hair benefits from texturising spray before pinning, or it slides.
- Very thick hair may need pinning in sections — say so when booking so we allow the time.

What to bring
- Photos of what you want, and a photo of what you do not.
- Your lipstick if you have a specific colour. If you are the bride, book your nails the same week.
- Any hairpiece, comb, veil or clips.
- A shirt that buttons at the front, so you do not pull anything over your head afterwards.
- The dress colour, or a photo of it — it affects the tones we choose.
The day before
- No new skincare products in the week before. This is not the time to try anything.
- Book brows and any facial waxing three days ahead, never the same day.
- Wash hair the day before, not the morning of.
- Exfoliate lips the night before and use a balm.
- Drink water and sleep. It shows on the skin more than any product.
Get in touch with your date and we will tell you what is still available. In peak season we book multiple appointments in a morning, so the earlier slots go first.
